Joyent Supports hi5 and Open Social
MARIN COUNTY, CALIFORNIA – March 13, 2008: Expands Social Networking partnerships by providing free Accelerators optimized for the Open Social platform.
Marin County, Calif. – April 17, 2007: Joyent, a provider of developer tools for Rails applications, will make the code for its online/offline component available to the Rails open source software development community. Developers providing open sourced (free) applications will have access to the Slingshot source code, enabling them to build hybrid applications that enable online and offline accessibility.
Joyent Slingshot enables Rails to break free of the browser. It is lightweight and customizable, allowing developers to deploy Ruby on Rails applications that run online and offline with a simple and transparent data synchronization.
The framework also provides an extensible drag and drop abstraction layer. Developers can hook into an application’s existing data import/export mechanisms without modifying any application code. It also facilitates the ability to deploy code updates and migrations, no matter how long a user has been offline.
“Joyent wanted to give something back to the Ruby on Rails community, and with Slingshot, developers can further differentiate Rails from other Web development frameworks,” said David Young, CEO. “_Slingshot fuses the best of both Web applications and desktop applications combining the ability to rapidly develop, deploy and update, a new hybrid of productivity applications_.”
Slingshot is currently in beta with a select group of third party applications working. Joyent plans to have Slingshot available for general release on both Windows and Macintosh OS X on May 1, 2007.
