Joyent Announces Sun Hosting Partnership and New Hosting Service Discounts for Startups

April 30, 2007 - Offers Web-Scale Hosting Infrastructure Powered by Sun Systems, Storage and Solaris

Marin County, Calif., April 30, 2007—Joyent, Inc, today announced a partnership with Sun Microsystems, Inc. to be one of two Web hosting providers for startup companies in the Sun Startup Essentials(SM) program, providing deeply discounted Web deployment hosting services based on the SolarisTM 10 Operating System(OS), and industry leading Sun systems and storage.

Through Joyent’s agreement with Sun, eligible U.S. based members of the Sun Startup Essentials program will now be able to purchase Web hosting infrastructure and services to help jumpstart and grow their business. This offer further expands the Sun Startup Essentials program, which helps early-stage companies to get to market more quickly on Sun’s enterprise-class technologies at a cost that fits their needs to conserve cash.

The hosting requirements of Web 2.0 and Internet Services startups typically differ from those of traditional established companies, due to their increased need to grow and expand services with fluctuating customer demands. Joyent is working closely with Sun to help address these requirements and is now able to offer these emerging companies all the advantages of the extremely flexible and scalable Solaris 10 OS based infrastructure.

“Joyent has been working with more than 200 Startup customers, such as Twitter and Magnetk, to help deliver next generation Web services,” said David Young, CEO, Joyent. “The virtualization capabilities and high performance of the Solaris OS and Sun Systems make for an ideal environment to meet the hosting requirements of our customers.”

Sun is working closely with Joyent to help build a highly scalable hosting infrastructure for startups and established companies,” said Juan Carlos Soto, vice president of marketing at Sun Microsystems. “We are pleased that Joyent has chosen Solaris 10 and the Sun platform for hosting Web 2.0 applications and that they are working with Sun to provide affordable hosting plans that are flexible and easily scalable, helping startups to grow their business.”

Joyent is using Solaris Container virtualization technology, part of the Solaris OS, the most advanced OS on the planet, to deliver the secure and high performance infrastructure to help deploy next-generation Web applications that can scale based on demand. Joyent also provides value-add services to manage and monitor their hosted environments. With highly flexible hosting offerings, customers can choose to start with a small capacity and grow flexibly as their business and community grows.
